Berkeley Law Professor on Trump's conviction and the limits of presidential power
UC Berkeley law expert Dan Farber explains Trump’s conviction and the limits of presidential power.
Farber, a professor at UC Berkeley School of Law and the author of Contested Ground: How to Understand the Limits of Presidential Power explains that while the framers of the constitution may never have considered the day that a convicted felon might ascend to the White House, they did grapple with the balance of power granted to the president. As Trump’s other cases play out, his claims of presidential immunity - and whether the Supreme Court decides to uphold this “get out of jail free” card - could have a profound impact on the future of the American presidency, and the limits of power in the office.

15 Questions with Chancellor Carol Christ
Переглядів 1,3 тис.Місяць тому
Chancellor Carol Christ already has her first day of retirement planned. She's set to board a plane with her son and her two granddaughters on vacation. Christ, who has led Berkeley for the past seven years, handed holiday control to her granddaughters, asking them where they'd like to go. "I expected they would say Disney World," explains Chancellor Christ in this short video. But her granddau...
Berkeley's 2024 University Medalist: Chris Ying

For Chris Ying, a math and history double major, logic and organized argument helped in both the classroom and in extracurriculars like mock trial competitions and student journalism at the Daily Californian. But it was a class working with incarcerated journalists at San Quentin that helped the top senior and 2024 University Medalist find his legal passion. For full story, visit: news.berkeley...
Saagar Asnani reads an Occitan poem

In his research, UC Berkeley Ph.D. candidate Saagar Asnani looks at music manuscripts from between the 12th and 14th centuries in medieval France. He says only recently have scholars begun to use a wider variety of media and artistic expressions as a way to study language. Here, he reads a poem in the medieval language of Occitan. May, 2023 - Most of the University of California, Berkeley’s Class of 2023 will always remember a stressful and disappointing two-year stretch, when the pandemic forced classes online at the end of the first year on campus. But for graduating senior Catherine "Catey" Vera, those online classes instead were a refuge during the slow death of her father from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, the illne...

University of California, Berkeley, chemists have created a new type of material from millions of identical, interlocking molecules that for the first time allows the synthesis of extensive 2D or 3D structures that are flexible, strong and resilient, like the chain mail that protected medieval knights. The material, called an infinite catenane, can be synthesized in a single chemical step. Fren...

Massive field test showing how AI smooths traffic flow
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
Researchers deployed a fleet of 100 semi-autonomous vehicles to test whether a new AI-powered cruise control system can help smooth the flow of traffic and improve fuel economy. Many traffic jams are caused by human behavior: a slight tap on the brakes can ripple through a line of cars, triggering a slowdown - or complete gridlock - for no apparent reason. But in a massive traffic experiment th...

Reducing toxic levels of arsenic in drinking water

UC Berkeley engineers have created a simple and low-cost new arsenic treatment system to help low-income communities access safer water. In many areas throughout California, the groundwater is tainted with dangerous levels of arsenic, a highly carcinogenic element that can seep into the water table from deposits in the soil and bedrock. While cities and larger municipalities can afford to remov...

Lui e altri 800 studenti furono arrestati poco dopo.

As a Stanford Alum, I proudly state that I vindictively LOVE this play for 2 reasons: 1. The arrogant, self aggrandizing collection of egos, posing as Stanford's marching band, always had the attitude that THEY were the stars of the game. They were therefore oblivious to what was happening on the field, because they wanted to make their victorious entrance. 2. That play never happens without all of the jackass head coaches who use the squib kick. Those coaches don't play to win. They play not to lose.

How we perceive time has to do with the indeterminism of Quantum Mechanics, fundamentally on where one observes a particle through light. Causality has a speed limit(c) with every point in space, where one observes it from the closest to their present moment. Example, when one looks out into the universe they see the past which is made of particles(GR). When one tries to measure the position of a particle, they are observing smaller distances and getting closer to the present moment(QM). The wave property of particles appears when we start trying to predict the future of that particle. A particle that has not had an interaction exists in a future state. It is a probability wave because the future is probabilistic. Wave function collapse is what we perceive as the present moment, its what divides the past from the future. GR is making measurements in the observed past and therefore, predictable. It can predict the future but only from information collected from the past. QM is attempting to make measurements of the unobserved future and therefore, unpredictable. Only once a particle interacts with the present moment does it become predictable. This is an observational interpretation of the mathematics we currently use based on the limited perspective we have with the experiments we choose to observe the universe with. We cannot travel backwards, only travel faster, towards a particle that has already reflected light.

At 3:30 Ron Faring mentioned adding on arms, which gave me an idea. What if you used a 3D printed compliant mechanism to grab onto targeted objects? It would be driven by a compact actuator and release when pulled by a string drive, but remain in the open position until grabbing a target, which would trigger it to close. Then, once it's done holding, it pulls the string and releases the claw. After that has completed, the claw returns to being locked in the open state.
